Positive: What a great way to experience the real Luxor. The location is stunning ... overlooking the banana plantations, guava tree in the back garden, birdsong all day, bats overhead at night, peace, quiet, village life all around. Yet just a quick ten minute stroll along the side of the banana plantations to the banks of the Nile, or the Corniche and the small cafes and restaurants of the West Bank. I walked up to Medinat Habu ... about an hour ... but such an interesting walk. You can hire bikes nearby, get local taxis, or just ask Mahmoud to take you out on his motorbike if you're not so keen on walking! This villa is just on the edge of a small village. Everyone knows everyone and they are so friendly and welcoming. Mahmoud is on site to look after you - anything I needed - taxi, directions, advice on where to go - and he was there to help. He also organised my taxi back to the East Bank and helped the taxi driver find the villa, as it is a little hidden away. The villa itself is well equipped, modern, good kitchen, big rooms, everything you need. I really couldn't fault it. And what a bargain! I didn't use the pool but it was nice just to sit next to it in the heat of the day to chill between visiting tombs and temples. If you need help with guides or taxis they will put you in touch with people. I was picked up at the airport and we stopped at a shop to buy provisions... so everything is so easy. If you want a place to chill and relax instead of the hustle bustle then this is heaven!
